Pilates


Pilates is as much a way of being as it is a methodology originally created by Joseph Pilates, in which the exercises strengthen your abdominals, deep spinal muscles and increase flexibility promoting longevity and wellness in body and mind.   This approach ensures safety in movement and alignment while promoting challenge and growth within each session.

  • In only 10 sessions, you will feel and see the difference.   

  • Expect variety in exercises yet the same quality in essence between teachers and instruction. 

  • You'll always be challenged and we will all celebrate your Pilates movement victories with you!

Work privately, in a duet session or group classes

  • Private Appointments begin with a Postural Analysis followed by a Movement Assessment.  This is the time that you create goals with your instructor and address any movement concerns or past injuries.  Each appointment is designed to meet your fitness needs and goals while working on all pieces of equipment related to Pilates such as the Reformer, Cadillac, Tower, V-2 Max, Stability Chair, Ladder Barrel and  Mat.

  • Duet Sessions are done with you and a friend or family member.

  • Group Classes are for up to four people working on the Tower, six people working on the Reformer and up to ten people working on Mat.

You will begin to see and feel results within the first few sessions-as long as there is some consistency.  As you learn the repertoire and gain a deeper understanding of how your body moves and how it can move, you'll begin to find the Pilates work you've done overflows into mainstream life and that is when your life improves significantly.

AntiGravity® Aerial Fitness and Aerial Yoga


STHIEL PILATES & MOVEment Center is the only Licensed Provider of  AntiGravity® Aerial Fitness in Pittsburgh and in the surrounding area.  Learn to defy gravity using the techniques and the AntiGravity Harrison  Hammocks created by Christopher Harrison. Experience the many benefits of this method which include zero compression inversions, decompression of the spine and joints, deeper flexibility, strength and greater proprioception- that is, becoming acutely aware of your body in space and time.  Fly with a Group of up to ten people or schedule a Private/Duet Appointment.

Fascial Fitness Mini Bouncing


Mini Bouncing Exercises for your Fascial Web which consists of connective tissue, (ligaments, tendons and cartilage), and myofascial chains. Utilizes the four principles of Fascial Fitness training: Rebound Elasticity, Fascial Stretch, Fascial Release and Sensory Refinement. Benefits include improvement in pain, efficiency in movement as well as facilitation toward high level athleticism. Can be scheduled as a Private or Duet session or take a Group Class of up to ten people.

Yoga


Styles include Ashtanga, Vinyasa Flow or Iyengar  depending on your certified instructor who facilitates movements that promote somatic (bodily)  alignment awareness as you move through asanas.

Yoga practice helps relieve the stressors of modern daily life while nurturing total well-being and is a perfect addition to other fitness modalities.

Dance


On the last Friday night of each month, join us for Friday Night Dance Party led by STHIEL staff or a Guest Teacher.

This 45 minute class is a movement party and a class for anyone that wants to learn a different dance genre every month. 

  • ​No dance experience necessary.

  • Low-impact. 

  • Wear your comfortable (indoor only) shoes, bring your water, bring your friends!
