I decided to try yoga at my college gym as a method of stress relief. I didn’t expect much, but quickly learned how beneficial it was in helping me to manage my stress. My instructors encouraged me to begin a training course and soon enough I became an instructor right where I had started my journey. Along the way I discovered an aerial yoga studio in town where I became an apprentice and started developing my own classes there. Aerial yoga has become my happy place to play and decompress my spine all at the same time. It’s such a versatile apparatus and I can hardly imagine my life without it.
My favorite part of teaching Aerial Yoga is experiencing a student’s reaction to being upside down in the hammock for the first time. Everyone's a little different, but oftentimes they react like a kid playing on the jungle gym. Followed by “I can’t believe I’m doing this!” Even the students who attend regularly, still learn a new pose or trick they have never tried.
I was a music major in college. I’ve played classical and jazz saxophone since I was 11 years old. Although I don’t pursue it professionally these days, I still play for my fiancé and two cats every now and then.
